The 2006 ARIA Awards Over For Another Year


The Australian Music Industry’s night of nights, The ARIA Awards, were held last night at the ACER Arena in Sydney. Wolfmother, Bernard Fanning, Clare Bowditch and The Hilltop Hoods were the big winners of the night.

Wolfmother won 3 awards and tore apart their drum kit during their time on stage. It was a night for Rock as Midnight Oil were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame with silverchair perfoming a tribute, complete with Daniel Johns spraying ‘PG 4 PM’ on the the back of the set, and U2 frontman Bono paying tribute to the iconic Australian group.

Clare Bowditch suprised many when she beat out Kasey Chambers for a much deserved ‘Best Female Artist Award’ and paid tribute the the support she recieved from Arts Victoria.

Bernard Fanning was the other big winner, being honoured with the coveted ‘Best Male Artist’ and ‘Album Of The Year’ Awards.

Adelaide group The Hilltop Hoods won ‘Best Independant Release’ and ‘Best Urban Release’ for their album ‘The Hard Road’.

The Audreys were rewarded for a stellar year when their album ‘Between Last Night And Us’ won “Best Blues And Roots Album’.

Best Independent Release: The Hard Road- the Hilltop Hoods

Best Adult Contemporary Album: Suburban Songbook- Bob Evans

Best Blues And Roots Album: Between Last Night And Us- The Audreys

Best Rock Album: Wolfmother- Wolfmother

Best Pop Release: The Secret Life Of…- The Veronicas

Best Urban Release: The Hard Road- The Hilltop Hoods

Highest Selling Australian Album: Reach Out, The Motown Record- Human Nature

Highest Selling Australian Single: TV Rock featuring Seany B- Flaunt It

Best Music DVD: Eskimo Joe

Best Video: Head Pictures- for Wish You Well- Bernard Fanning

Best Cover Art: Debaser- for Tea And Sympathy- Bernard Fanning

Engineer Of The Year: Matt Lovell- for Black Fingernails, Red Wine- Eskimo Joe
