Michael Franti Documentary Opening In Australia
Michael Franti, who most will know for being leader of San Francisco-based band Spearhead, is set to visit Australia in April to launch his first feature film as director, ‘I Know I’m Not Alone’.
Special premiere screenings in each city will feature a Q + A following each screening and a half hour live acoustic performance from Michael Franti.
‘I Know I’m Not Alone’, which won titile of the Best Film Award at the 2005 San Francisco Film Festival, evolved out of Franti’s desire to get a personal perspective on the war in the Middle East. With a guitar, a camera, and good friends for company, he visited Iraq, Palestine and Israel
in 2005 in search of a greater understanding.
From family homes in Baghdad to hospital beds and US occupation forces, Franti walks the streets and talks to everyday people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances. The group then departs Iraq and travels throughout Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Gaza Strip and the West Bank trying to grasp the complicated and tragic issue of the occupation, the green line, the security fence and suicide bombers.
