Philadelphia Grand Jury hit the road with a new single.

Fresh from the Laneway Festival tour Philadelphia Grand Jury announce a headline tour and new track from last year’s J Award nominated debut, Hope is For Hopers.

The new radio single ‘I Don’t Want To Party (Party)’ is an anti-party slacker anthem that in its utter catchiness has a habit of inciting exactly the opposite to what it says in the title. The track is a live favourite and was for a long time used as the set closer which sees the band finish each set with a literal bang – one time even seeing lead singer Berkfinger taking to an upright piano with a sledgehammer.

The single is joined by three exclusive never-heard-before tracks.

B-side number one is a disco remix of Philadelphia Grand Jury album track ‘Wet Winter Holiday’ by Mike FWD. The next is a solo track by band lead singer and producer Berkfinger called ‘Jimmy At The Whorehouse’ which is the first cut off a self-produced solo concept album due out later in the year on the band’s own label Normal People Making Hits.

And in the spirit of this eclectic package the fourth addition to the single is really one for the fans. It is a hip-hop funk jam called ‘Both Kinds Of Music’ written, sung and produced by the band’s new drummer Calvin. After having rotating drummers the past 12 months, the band has now cemented its line up. Calvin (yep, just Calvin) is a 56 year-old African American drummer who used to session drum for US disco and funk acts like Earth Wind and Fire and bebop legend Sonny Stitt. This track is a gem. You heard it here first.

To celebrate the single Philadelphia Grand Jury will be hitting the road throughout April with support from The John Steel Singers for what will be their final Australian shows for the foreseeable future. The band will re-locate to the UK where they have a deal with super cool London based Beggar’s label Too Pure and a series of club shows leading into the Northern Summer.

The ‘I Don’t Want To Party (Party)’ single package is released to iTunes on March 19th 2010.
