NEW JUSTICE RECORDS OPENS ITS DOORS TO UP AND COMING BANDS

New Justice Records is set to take a fresh approach to Australia’s music industry to provide greater opportunities for up and coming bands.

With more and more bands and artists becoming self-sufficient with their releases, it was the realisation by label founders Ryan Lambert and Barry Shackleton that a niche existed in the market in the accessibility that bands had to professional releasing and distribution for their music.

New Justice Records self-distributes physical CDs throughout a significant amount of record stores across Australia and New Zealand, and worldwide through leading online download sites such as iTunes.

Built largely around the concept of working with the artist, Barry Shackleton says that their aim is simple – to help bands reach a higher level of success. “Every band has their own goal destination, we want to assist in laying down some of the path in order to try getting them there,” Shackleton says.

The pair have both been involved in the musical aspect of the business having been, and continuing to be, in bands and they’ve experienced the relentless touring and the frustrations and challenges that face local and unsigned bands each day and it’s with that experience that they aim to help prevent bands from making the same mistakes and breaking through the moulds.

“Both of us have come together to create a label based on our personal experiences within the music scene from a musicians perspective. We have played in the venues Australia wide, big & small from 5 onlookers to 15 thousand onlookers, from shitty venues with terrible PAs to festivals and entertainment shows. We have made decisions in our own bands that have not always been the strongest but we learn from our choices and aim to pass on that experience to others to help them make the right ones.”

The pair describe their current stable of artists as a “strong beginning” with a roster that already incorporates artists in Rock, Post Hardcore, Electro Pop Rock, Metal and Blues with the likes of Town Hall Steps, Sienna Skies, Chemical Transport, As Silence Breaks and Ash Phoenix.

“One of our main objectives was to not focus on being genre specific.  It’s about believing in something and working with that artist – whatever their nature. We are not ignorant to the fact that Record Labels are in a turbulent time of transition right now, with the accessibility people have to downloading and file sharing over the internet, and the result being that bands lose out on record sales. However, we aim to not build our foundations on a 1970s model but focus on riding the wave of change and harness the power that the future of the music industry brings.”

“To us, it is not about if the band is ‘heavy’ or ‘underground’ or ‘commercial’, it is about if we see potential in an already hard working band, and can visualise a path, together we can aim for a higher level”.
