[Me] + Mr Percival
Thursday 21 October, 6pm – 7.30pm

The theatrical rock fusion of [ME] and the beat-boxing, harmonising, beyond comparison and description, Mr Percival are set to deliver a spectacular gig.

Described as the purveyors of theatrical rock, Australian four-piece [Me] unite a kaleidoscope of elements including classical piano, vocal harmonies, grooves, synth programming and soaring guitars to produce a sensory sensation. The acclaimed Melbourne group’s second single Westward Backwards, is an awesome display of musical power akin to the group’s previous single, Working Life, which blasted its way onto triple j earlier this year. The band, which was a triple j unearthed feature artist in 2009, is currently touring Australia on the back of their new single release.

Mr Percival’s musical adventure began in Mexico and along the way he has studied with Bobby McFerrin and performed with an eclectic array of performers including Australian show biz icons Bobby Limb and Dawn Lake, jazz genius James Morrison, and actor and singer Russell Crowe. The journey has seen him tour Australia and New Zealand as well performances at The House of Blues in California and a Parliament House Concert for President Bill Clinton. These combined experiences have honed the talents of a vocal artist who melds beat-boxing, harmonising, simulated trumpets and cellos with a grand voice for an inexplicable, artistic performance.

The Naked and Famous + Seabellies
Thursday 4 November, 6pm – 7.30pm

In two short years The Naked and Famous have gone from a bedroom recording outfit to chart toppers with international radio play and tours to the UK and USA on the agenda. Following their infectious single Young Blood and their debut album Passive Me Aggressive You, The Naked and Famous has burst out of ‘nowheresville suburbia’ to deliver great alternative rock. The quintet of Thom Powers, Alisa Xayalith, Aaron Short, David Beadle and Jesse Wood pick off elements of lush dream pop, brittle ambience and sparky electronic rock to produce a fresh sound that excites the hippest ears in the land.

Blistering indie band, Seabellies move along their own musical highway with plenty of surprising twists and kinks. Featuring Newcastle  singer/songwriter Trent Grenell and his younger brother Kyle alongside.

Antony Martin, Eddie Garven, Sean Kelleher and Stephanie Setz, the band is known for their extreme instrumentation, gear-swapping-mid-show antics. With electronic sounds, strings, metallophones, melodicas, accordions, soaring guitars and multi percussive layering promised, this is a live show not to be missed.

Dunganda Street Sounds + Lajamanu Teenage Band
Thursday 18 November, 7.30pm – 9pm

Hailing from Ramingining in East Arnhem, Dunganda Street Sounds comprises songwriting team Jason Durrurrnga and Michael Dhuwa along with singers Bobby Bununggurr and Jimmy Djamunba. Their song Senor was nominated for ‘Song of The Year’ and ‘Film Clip Of The Year’ at the 2009

Indigenous Music Awards, and is also being featured in this year’s Darwin Festival television commercial. Darwin Festival is billing their performance at the opening concert as “possibly one of the most anticipated debut live performances ever seen at this gig.” There’s no need to travel to the top end though, Duganda Street Sounds are set to thrill Fed Square audiences with their outback sounds.

Originating from one of the Australia’s most remote Aboriginal communities Lajamanu, which is situated near the top of the Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory, the seven piece Lajamanu Teenage Band play a very tight and unique style of desert rock/ska with syncopations that vibrate like the shimmering Tanami light.

The Lajamanu Teenage Band cleverly fuses traditional and contemporary original compositions. Echoing the voices of their ancestors, they sing about Australia’s harsh but evocative landscape, the big rains and long roads as well as poignant social messages around issues such drink driving. The colourful compositions, which are sung in their local Walpiri language as well as English, are written by Alfred Rose and Kennett Martin, who have been affectionately dubbed the ‘Lennon and McCartney of the bush’,

Kylie Auldist + Deep Street Soul
Thursday 2 December, 6.30pm – 8pm

Regarded as one of Melbourne’s treasured secrets, Kylie Auldist is a vocal powerhouse. Her soulful sounds have seen her perform with funk and hip hop outfits Polyester, Mega Bias and The Bamboos. As well as releasing two solo albums, Kylie is featured on The Bamboos current album and has toured UK and Europe with them. She has also featured as a backing vocalist for Australian music legends Renee Geyer and Jimmy Barnes playing high profile gigs in Australia and overseas.

Formed in 2006 with the simple aim of ‘recapturing some old skool southern flavors’, deep funk quartet, Deep Street Soul have spent the last decade DJ’ing all over the country. Featuring funk DJ & drummer Sol Loco, bass player & soul aficionado Papa ‘J’ Hunter, Cropper lovin’ Matt ‘MG’ Green and Queen of the keys Monique ‘Mon Cherie’ Boggia, Deep Street Soul should not be missed.

Line up until 21 April to be announced.
