The Troubadour to close its doors

Toub edit

This is happening far too often…

Iconic Aussie music venues are crumbling under rent increases, music restrictions, promoting violence allegations and many other idiotic laws that are killing the magic and art that is live music. Meanwhile some inner city nightclub has just turned on a consistent thumping beat on their itunes and sat it in the corner on shuffle as they count through their cash as the striving music artists struggle to find a venue willing to let them pleasure their instruments.

Possibly Brisbane’s most well recognized music venue The Troubadour will be closing its doors at the end of the month. Whispers are claiming large rises in rent and the changing face of the Valley to be the cause.

Here’s what The Troub have to say on their website:

It’s news that will rock the Brisbane music community – the heart and soul of Brisbane’s music community, the iconic The Troubadour will be calling last drinks and closing its doors forever come the end of November.

In what will be a devastating blow to the town with a matter that has gone beyond the control of owners Jamie Trevaskis and Corinna Scanlon, the beloved music venue will close its doors on Sunday, November 21.

More information as to how the venue will be farewelled and why it is closing will be released in the very near future.  The Troub crew would like to extend gratitude to every single band, artist and punter who has graced the venue in the last seven and a half years.

The future of “The Troubadour” name and recognisable aesthetic remains uncertain but for now, the dream is over.

Since opening in 2003, The Troub has had one night stands with small local artists through to world renowned artists and bands. This is a huge loss to not only the Brisbane music scene but Australia’s.
