FINALISTS ANNOUNCED TO BATTLE IT OUT AT THE TOTE – SUNDAY MAY 22ND
SYN is pleased to announce the five talented finalists for the Free Kick Competition with four Melbourne bands and one band from NSW in the running to battle it out for a chance to play at the 2011 Reclink Community Cup. The five finalists are I, a Man, Rain Party, Red Rockets of Borneo, The Living Eyes and Royal Chant (NSW).
The Free Kick Competition is an initiative by SYN and the 2011 Reclink Community Cup, offering an emerging band or artist the chance to perform at this year’s event.
The five finalists will battle it out at the Free Kick Final held at The Tote on Sunday, May 22nd and the winner will be judged by music industry folk Maddy McFarlane (PBS), Honora Crosbie (SYN), The Espy Rockdogs (Michael Cini from Money For Rope), and Simon Winkler (Triple R).
The 2011 Reclink Community Cup will be held on Sunday, June 26th at Elsternwick Park and is not only a brilliant game of footy but the day showcases some of Australia’s best live musicians, both on and off the field. The winner of the Free Kick Competition will perform at this year’s event alongside You Am I, Tumbleweed, The Rebelles and Mercy Kills.
In keeping with this year’s Nick Cave ‘Do you love me?’ theme, the winning band will also perform a Nick Cave song as part of their set.
The 2011 Reclink Community Cup is a footy match like no other, between the Espy Rockdogs and the PBS 106.7FM and Triple R 102.7FM Megahertz. The game and the day celebrate Melbourne’s dynamic music and community broadcasting cultures while raising funds for the events official charity partner, Reclink.

With a network of over 300 member agencies around the country, Reclink encourages participation in physical activity in a population group under-represented in mainstream sport, recreational programs and associations.
Reclink, PBS 106.7FM and Triple R 102.7FM acknowledges the support of the 2011 Reclink Community Cup major partners – Bayside City Council, SYN Media and the Victorian Amateurs Football Association.
