Hilltop Hoods Orchestrate Hard Road

Australia’s biggest hip hop stars join forces with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for ‘The Hard Road: Restrung’.

After trialling the idea at the ARIA Awards last year, Hilltop Hoods will team up for a one-off performance with their city’s Symphony Orchestra, adding some class to their street-level beats.

Rapper Daniel “Pressure” Smith told the Adelaide Advertiser that the concept was as much the ASO’s idea as Hilltop’s. “We wanted to do something different on stage and the ASO had shown some interest, and once we got together everything worked out well,” he said.

Matt “Suffa” Lambert added, “It wasn’t hard – most of them were younger members of the ASO and had volunteered to play with us. But it was a steep learning curve mixing the two styles.”

The Advertiser also reports that the trio will take a string quartet to the UK to launch the album in late May. Both their Carling Academy shows have already sold out.

The Australian launch takes place on May 12 at Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre with an all hip hop undercard of Muph   Plutonic and DJs Reflux and Shep. ‘The Hard Road: Restrung’ album will be released on May 19.
