Gig Spotlight: Papa Vs Pretty

Gig Spotlight: Papa Vs Pretty, Wednesday December 1, The East Brunswick Club.

By Chris Mitchell.

The East Brunswick Club has recently played host to some big names, and as festival season rolls on, more and more big names will be hitting up the Lygon Street bandroom. And this Wednesday, one of Australia’s most promising groups will join them when ‘next big things’ Papa Vs Pretty jump off the number 8 tram.

On the back of the release of their EP Heavy Harm, and strong support from Triple J,Sydney rockers Papa Vs Pretty are hitting the road for festivals such as Peats Ridge, Pyramid, and Big Day Out, supporting Hot Hot Heat, and also pulling up for some headline shows of their own.

Wdenesday night at the East is one of those shows, and Papa Vs Pretty will be joined by Triple J Unearthed High winners Stonefield, and the Fuzz Phantoms.

When Papa Vs Pretty began in 2006, the band was essentially the solo act of 15 year old Thomas Rawle. The music was an interesting fusion of indie rock and electronic, and the sound has developed through the following years into a much rockier sound, which can be heard on Heavy Harm.

Triple J has given their song ‘Heavy Harm’ strong support, and chances are even if you don’t think you’ve heard it, you already like it. Touted as one of 2011’s bands to watch, Papa Vs Pretty promise to provide an entertaining and engaging performance, one that you’ll be sorry to have missed when they are selling out much bigger venues in the years to come…
