The Samsung Australian Surf Movie Festival

The Samsung Australian Surf Movie Festival – Take 5, presented by Quiksilver, is heading your way this spring, with the official premiere at Twin Towns in Coolangatta kicking off proceedings on September 28th, covering the whole east coast for 28 shows, ending in Adelaide October 29th, just in time for summer.
This time round, tour director, Tim Bonython, has chosen two of the years most highly anticipated films to showcase.
First up is FLOW, the true story of a surfing revolution. A wonderful and fulfilling surf film, FLOW was awarded Best Documentary at the X-Dance Film Festival in the US. Director/Writer/Producer Josh Landan worked with Producer/Writer/Editor Scott Stankey to craft one of the most revealing and compelling surfing stories ever told, offering a feature documentary delivered in a truly unique cinematic style.
FLOW focuses on Channel Islands Surfboards founder and world-renowned surfboard craftsman Al Merrick. Looking closely at his unique relationships with world champion Channel Islands Team riders, and arguably the two best and most influential surfers ever; Kelly Slater (7 time world champion) and Tom Curren (3 time world champion).

Next up is FIRST CHAPTER, a film made by Jason Muir   co-directed by Dane Reynolds. FIRST CHAPTER shows off what futuristic surfing is all about. Dane Reynolds is a freak of nature, his surfing screams talent and cements him as one of the most exciting names in the modern era.
And one for the ladies, highlights from Shimmer, the latest all-girls surf film by Roxy. SHIMMER stars Australian ASP World Womens Champion Chelsea Georgeson and former four-times world champion and women’s surfing legend Lisa Andersen. Shimmer is already considered one of the best female surf flicks ever made. Directed by Jason Muir and Lowen Taylor.
A retrospective segment package of surfing footage shot this year by Tim Bonython   friends, including footage from the biggest swell to hit the east coast in decades, shot last April, plus massive swells from Shipsterns in Tasmania and South Western WA.
NORTH BY NORTHWEST a new short film by Jason Muir   Chris Bryan featuring epic desert barrels filmed this July/August with surfing by Ry Craike, Kerby Brown   crew.
To end the night with a bang, footage hot out of the edit room, AS GOOD AS IT GETS, in true Tim Bonython style all time, MASSIVE Teahupo’o July 2006 Shot- July 28th 2006 Featuring Raimana, Dorian, Manoa, Poto, Mark Healy and Peter Mel.
Australian Indie artist Josh Boots will be performing his acoustic tunes live in the intermission at designated venues.
