New festival takes music and art to the edge


The full program for Australia’s newest festival, MONA FOMA, has been announced by its Curator, Brian Ritchie.

The inaugural MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) Festival Of Music and Art will hit Hobart from January 9 – 12. It focuses on the areas where music and art meet, and features a broad selection of international and Australian artists and musicians.

Headlining the program is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with special guests The Saints. The festival also features artists from Italy, France, Tunisia, the USA, Spain, Mali, the Netherlands, Canada and Germany. Apart from the Nick Cave concert, everything in the festival is free.

The MONA FOMA program covers a range of music from Italian anarchist folk punk trio The Zen Circus through to German pipe-organ improviser Ansgar Wallenhorst, from American blues to Japanese drumming and DJ electronica.
