Gearing up for Golden Plains 2010

goldenplains

Finally, after a year in dry dock, the handmade supersloop Golden Plains IV is about to set sail. For those about to board her, there is some important information to impart.

The Little Golden Booklet contains Everything You Need To Know – playing times, maps, handy tips (eg smokers BYO this year), what to bring (eg warm & waterproof clothes), what not to (eg bring no glass), and is available to download now from the Golden Plains website. If you are Going, we’d suggest you read, print and bring it with you:

BRING WARM & WATERPROOF CLOTHES
Looks like it will be cool-ish with some rain so a bagful of good quality warm and waterproof clothes is absolutely essential. That doesn’t mean ‘a jumper’ – that means several warm jumpers, a quality hooded waterproof coat, beanie, lots of warm bedding/doonas/sleeping bags/blankets, towels and a bagful of spare clothes. Take a coat that’s waterproof not just showerproof – there’s a big, uncomfortable difference. Gumboots and/or good outdoor boots will be required – the #1 treated injury on the St Johns Ambulance Hit Parade is cut feet – can’t dance to that. Get out the tent/panelvan/motorhome/caravan/inflatable igloo now and make sure it is in good working order. No leaks. All pegs. Maybe spare tarp. You need to be able to get yourself warm and dry.

SMOKES NO LONGER SOLD AT GOLDEN PLAINS
New laws from January 1 mean tobacco products cannot be sold at the festival (along with many other outdoor events). So smokers: bring enough for you and your ‘friends’ for three days (or quit). Not that we condone smoking, just giving fair warning that there will be no smokes for sale at the festival. Smokers will as usual need to be super careful about their butts – every one is a potential fire risk – so grind them right out or drench in the dregs of a can etc.

LOU BARLOW, JEFFREY LEWIS, THE PROFESSOR
Legendary Lou Barlow may play a solo set somewhere on the site (not on stage) mid-arvo Saturday. If it happens there’ll be details at the festival. Remarkable Jeffrey Lewis will play a special solo set in the Cinema at 11pm Sunday night. And Professor Hugh McDermott from the Bionic Ear Institute will explain Why Music Is Good For Your Brain.

The full line up dazzles like this:
