Zoophyte competition

With a huge prize pack on offer, this is one of those gigs you just cant afford to miss.

With their eclectic blend of roots, funk and rock, Zoophyte have been gradually gathering momentum over recent months. Having spent almost every Sunday of the recent summer playing at The Evelyn and attracting Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt for jam’s on the Oakley rooftop, things have definitely been busy in the Zoophyte camp.
They brought in the New Years with End of Fashion in front of a huge crowd at the Docklands and officially closed the Melbourne Commonwealth Games alongside Killing Heidi at the Last Lap Athletes afterparty in March. More recently the band has supported 67 Special, sold out of cd’s at the Apollo Bay festival and had their clip ‘watching waves’ featured on RAGE.

Consisting of Cam Lee (vocals, 6 12 string guitar, percussion), Andy Lee (vocals, guitar, trumpet, didge, djembe), James Johnson (guitar), Yiorgo Sgourakis (bass) and ex drummer from The Froze, James Majernik, the band has been hard at work in pre-production for their forth coming release due out next summer, which will feature a slightly more rocking Zoophyte.

“With the buzz rapidly spreading to all stations and industry heavyweights, these super friendly lads could just be the freshest taste on the menu this year”

Sporting fat grooves, melodies you wont soon forget and punchy percussive breakdowns that you didn’t see coming, Zoophyte put on an electric live show that’s guaranteed to get any crowd moving. Branded as one of the more progressive, exciting bands to emerge from Melbourne’s burgeoning indie scene, 2006 promises to be an exciting year for Zoophyte.

Catch Zoophyte on Sat 1st July at The Hi Fi Bar, 125 Swanston st Walk. Doors open at 8:30pm, $15 entry. With special guests The Custom Kings Ben Smith.
